Reading Suggestions?

Thanks to all of you who have been updating your blogs. When I'm up in the middle of the night with Mr. Alex I am able to catch up with all of you, and boy am I having a good time (while YOU sleep!).

Another night time allowance I give myself is to read. I love to read. Currently I am reading a John Grisham novel that somehow escaped my attention before, "The Last Juror". Prior to this, I finally started the Twilight series. Although the storyline is unique and interesting, I could hardly take the writing style and drama oozing from the main character. No thanks. Any suggestions for a good read?

Likes: mysteries, historical fiction and my friend's blog entries
Dislikes: romance, westerns and food labels

OK. Anything Grisham is fantastic. I've read them all except for the the two that were way too disturbing. Have you read the Mitch Albom books? I love them all. I also have loved Three Weeks with My Brother by Nicholas and Micah Sparks. The other Sparks books are too gushy for me but this one is great. I have loved reading the Kate DiCamillo books like The Tale of DesPereaux (sp ?), Mercy Watson, Because of Winn Dixie, and my new favorite that has become the favorite of my colleagues is The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. You will absolutely adore it. You won't be able to put it down.

The Number One Ladies Detective Agency series, by Alexander McCall Smith. Seriously the best ever. He has several other books as well, but these are his best.

Ella Minnow Pea--can't remember the author, but totally fun read.

Anything by Sharyn McCrumb. She has some funny mysteries with the character Elizabeth MacPhearson, and some serious, slightly erie mysteries set in Appalachia.

I'll send more as they come to me. Happy Reading!

Ooh! I love anything by Sandra Dallas as far as historical fiction goes. Em, you are the only person besides me that I know who thought Twilight was a little over the top. "You are my life now!" Puleeze! I actually liked the movie better than the book because I didn't have to hear Bella's silly thoughts.

Jules! I knew we were soul sistahs, and now I'm so glad you confessed your Twilight blues to me....

Robin, Kim....you have given me some intriguing reads to chew on. I'm making my list and heading to the library! Thanks!

Okay, so These is my Words was a hit with the book club ladies. I now feel that I can safely recomment it.

I agree with the "These Is My Words" recommendation. Loved it. Also, I'm rereading "Sense and Sensibility" by Jane Austen...glorious. You should try "The Painted House" by John Grisham. Not about lawyers. Honestly if you didn't KNOW it was him you would never guess but I liked it. I also agree with The Mitch Albom books. I liked "The Five People You Meet In Heaven" the best but all were good. Another current recommendation is "Marley and Me". I read it before I saw the movie and it is a keeper. I don't do vampires so Twilight wasn't even a consideration for me. For Christmas I got "Grace" by Richard Paul Evans and enjoyed it. That and Mitch Albom's books are very quick reads but good ones. Let me know what you choose! Miss you!
