Leggo my Sandy Eggo

So that was a hint.  Yes, we've been in San Diego.  But no Legoland or Disneyland or Candyland.  It was a beach trip all the way.
Ready for the beach action.  Note the big boys at work behind.
We brought bikes and rented this surrey on Coronado Island.

"I can COMMAND THE SEA!!" -Benson

A little kite flying on the beach.  Gotta do it.

Mormon Battalion Visitors Center was AWESOME!

After our ferry ride to Coronado Island.  Downtown San Diego behind.

Josh cleverly "leashed" Alex to the boogie board to tote him around.

Jackson couldn't get enough of the waves.

The girls soaked up the sun and waves and shopping.

Our kids are always digging at the beach.  Tradition even though it's been years.
Josh took Alex, er, Alex took Josh on the carousel.

Horsin around at the Battalion Visitors Center

The beach was kinda full, but still totally relaxing.

My two handsome men.
The water was nice and comfortable, the air was between 75 and 80 (maybe chilly?) but we got our surf and sun in for the summer.  We hadn't been to an ocean beach with the kids since Jackson was a baby.  We needed 2 hotel rooms (a first) and we cooked meals in the microwaves in our rooms and packed lunches at the beaches.

We visited a lighthouse, tidepools, The Mormon Battalion, Oceanside Beach, Mission Bay, Coronado Island, took a ferry, biked the island, rode amusement park rides at Mission Bay, visited Costco and ate pizza in a deserted mall's food court while watching fireworks.  Not a bad few days. :)

Benson played some ukulele and we sang in the car even... sort of a mom's dream come true and not super common with all the electronic gadgets humming in the car instead usually.  We were minus one electronic gadget when I waded out to sea with my phone in my pocket forgetfully and regretfully.  Not even the famous bag of rice did the trick to bring it back to life. :(

The beach was too inviting for one last play day in it, and we ended up staying until 5 pm when we finally left to go home.  We drove home through the night with a 3 hour stopped still period just before Las Vegas where there was a terrible accident ahead of us.  But it was worth it.  A little IHOP in the morning capped off our California Dreamin' Trip quite nicely.

Great family vacation, one we've needed to take for awhile.  Only one more summer before Benson leaves for college and our summer trips will change, at least perhaps in attendance.  Trying not to think about that. :(

We just got back from the beach as well. Only we went to the Oregon Coast. The water was freezing, but the sand was awesome for the kids to dig in and get all dirty with! For us as well it was one we needed to have done a long time ago, but we are so glad we did it! :) Looks like you all had a fabulous time! I can't believe your oldest will be a senior this year! Time flies that's for sure.

Sometimes I think it'd be great to have a family and go on trips...and then I imagine what three hours in traffic with a whole family in the car would be like and count my nonexistent blessings...BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Glad you had a great time. Hope to see you fiddling away with us Sunday mornings again!
