Here it comes...

Great news!

I'm old!!  Benson was accepted to BYU-Idaho!  He's known for at least 6 months this was the only place he wanted to go, so he's pretty happy.

At the moment he only has one class needed to graduate, US Government.  So being the typical senior, this semester he also threw in Foods, Guitar, Seminary, a college credit math class (YES! I LOVE FREE COLLEGE CREDIT) and he's doing an internship.

His field of interest is in Psychology, so for his internship he'll be working at a center for special needs kids with counselors.  Great experience.

Here's the clincher... BYU-Idaho permanently assigns your semester tracks and Benson's assignment is January through July.  I'm not sure how I feel about that.  Pretty different than the typical summers off.

My thoughts?
1.  Less Idaho snot freeze with only spending half the winter up there.
2.  More time to $ave before school. I suggest a full time job plus a few night classes.
3.  He's ready to go NOW, but he doesn't start for a year?  Oh, boy.  This year might be tough.
4.  He'll turn 19 a year from July, so he'll leave soon for his mission after he gets home from his first year.  That's probably good.

My feelings?
1.  What?!?!?!  How did this happen so fast?
2.  Who will wake him up when his alarm goes off for an hour straight? (probably an annoyed roomate)
3.  How do you give permission for part of your heart to up and leave?
4.  We need to figure out how to moonlight something to afford this.  I'm thinking koolaid stands all over town.
5.  I'm old!

I can feel the course of his life taking off, and under the best of all circumstances.  His testimony is strong, and he's headed into an exciting part of his life with enthusiasm and confidence.  Is there anything greater?

Yeah, doing it 5 more times after Benson. (fingers crossed I'll survive this)

Make certain he takes his beard! He's going to need it up there. (Will it be allowed up there?) I have had two daughters graduate from BYU-I and they LOVED the experience. I can't believe you are old enough to have a graduate, my dear!

Yipee!!! I'm so glad he is coming. A few things to remember: 1. Winter in Rexburg lasts from October to June - he's going to get the full brunt of it. 2. We are so close that we will get him anything he needs and since Collin will be on his mission, Grandma will need someone else to take care of. 3. We can be old together - glad you have made it.

Hooray for Benson - but January is a long time from now. Can't wait to see him here.

Wow! Weren't we were just watching them ride their trikes around the quad? Time really does fly. I'm a few years behind you, and I don't look forward to letting them go. One right after the other. :`(

I will come up and buy koolaid from your koolaid stands every day this summer to help him save up tuition money! Congrats to Benson!

Hi, I'm actually BYUfish's sister, the one with a son at BYUI, just to let you know the I has rules all its own. No beards, no flipflops or shorts and he can change out of his track if in year three and four he shows he needs classes in the regular semester. We have found a few things different than Provo, where my other son is attending, and they are sometimes annoying but he does love school and is looking forward to going back in April. The problem with this track is finding employment for such a short time in a season that is not used to hiring students. Good Luck to Benson! He will have a great time if he looks in all the right places!
